Ok, for those of you who did not know already, your Income Advisory Statement is ready for you on InTouch in the Reports Section. Post here if you need help finding it and I am sure one of us will get you there. 🙂
So, ya’all know my goal is to get back to six figure and I am sure ya’all are wondering what my personal income advisory statement sez – I am gonna round the number up or down based on where it is so that I do not accidentally identify myself because I will give this to my unit too…
Combined US Commissions Total: $33,000
PRIZES AND AWARDS: $1,000
Net Career Car Income Reported On 1099-MISC $7,000
Add to that my commission from my personal retails sales: $13,000 – my wholesale purchases were also just under $13,000 – just to show you that you do not need to buy a bunch of product to sit on a shelf and dust. I finished court of sales end of seminar year last year and things slowed a little after that… hmm… gotta fix that. GASP! Guess what? I CAN!! YAY!!!
So actual cash in: $46,000 +other = $54,000
Honestly, I am disappointed with the number of appointments I held the last half of the year. I had a lot of personal stuff going on that contributed to this. Fortunatley 95% of which has been resolved so I look forward to a strong finish to the seminar year and an amazing overall 2007.
Is this executive income? Heck… that depends on how you define it. I call it great pay for great fun and great freedom. Yes yes… expenses need to come out of that… guess what… my husband pays bills out of his check too duh. You do not get to keep 100% of ANY paycheck.
Is this average for a Grand Prix Director? NO CLUE. Kinda wish the company had numbers on that. Again, I have never made a car payment so that changes the career car income portion and of course the overall commissions as well.
Do I work full-time. Yes. Kind of. I do not work those hours that I hear other people talk about. Ever heard the saying that the job will take up all the time you alot it? Well… working for yourself is definitely like that. So I work full time but if I were to really cut the BS (talking with girlfriends, blogging, etc… well… no… probably not a true full 40 hours of MK income producing or office activity). Just keeping real grrrlz.
Bottom-line, I am grateful for this opportunity and this business. I am in for the long haul! I know a lot of people who work a lot harder for a lot less.

Thank you for sharing that! Wonder if we will hear about it anywhere….
I don’t work MK full time now, but I have and there is no way I worked 40 hours a week. I made money though and it matched my effort and also matched what I needed to make at the time. I do have a full-time-sometimes-over-40-hours-per-week job now so obviously I don’t make as much with MK as I used to. But I don’t work many hours at it, and make great per-hour money. I am in the midst of doing my taxes now, so no totals yet, but I have a pretty good idea. And it’s NOT “in the red”.
What does not get mentioned often is the flexibility of the hours we do work. I can fit in appointments in little pockets of time, or wake up to find a $75 order in my email, that resulted from no effort on my part. I’m sure you fit in many things in between phone calls, appointments and meetings, right? It just sort of absorbs into your life so it doesn’t feel like work. At least that is the way it is with me.
Again, many thanks for sharing this!

I really hope we don’t see this pop-up somewhere… I thought about that when posting it… I really want to keep this a positive place.
No, my committment is to work 40 hours for real this year and hit that 6 figure mark. I do believe it is possible. I feel like this is my “part time” effort. What I mean by that is that I work full time but not with “urgency” and that needs to change. I could get much more done in less time.
I have also always been good about not breathing & living only Mary Kay. I do close my door and “close the office.” You just have to have balance with it. If that makes sense at all.
February 12, 2007 at 8:46 pm
Pynk, that is pretty dang good for a “MK lady”! I think it depends on your perspective if that is ‘executive income’. If you were a teacher, then heck yeah, 50,000 sounds great! If you were a CEO, maybe not, but for the less stressful job and better hours…might be worth it. Depends on what the person wants!
February 13, 2007 at 6:11 am
thanks so much for this, it is so realistic! And I think that income it great money! I especially like the part about “you do not keep 100% of ANY paycheck”. This is what the naysayers need to understand when they claim MK income is not real. You keep it up and I know you will reach your goals!!

This is really good, considering that you were disappointed with the number of appointments that you held the last half of the year. So this not only shows that it can be done, it also shows that You are in control.
I also admire that you are good at “closing your office”. I think that is necessary so you and your family don’t get burned.

#1 Me: “I can fit in appointments in little pockets of time, or wake up to find a $75 order in my email, that resulted from no effort on my part.”
I used to sell Avon and was an eRep. I have a question, which will help put my own experience into perspective:
How many times have you ever woken up to find a relatively large order in your email?
February 13, 2007 at 2:20 pm
I have that happen at least a couple times a month personally. Both with new clients and with existing. The largest being $350 (yes for real… not from Guana) and the average being $75-$100. 🙂 HTH
Also guys, I am getting negative stuffs that I am just not allowing through with regard to this post… oy

Hi Myst,
Not to shabby, there are always a couple butt holes that argue every micro-detail. Probably wanna see your expenses, but that’s besides the point and it’s none of their business. Your so dog-on practical that I can guess they are relatively low. I appreciate your honesty…Keep workin’ it girl.
February 13, 2007 at 2:50 pm
Yeah, the expenses really are pretty low. Plus I pay a portion of our mortgage, his cell phone, my cell phone, business phone/fax/800, prizes, office rent (no I do not charge dues), etc.
This is half of what I used to bring home though, soooooo… I wanna get back to my 6 figures. 🙂 And when I made 6 figures working for someone else I still paid mortgage, his phone, my phone, home phone, internet, car, insurance, etc. etc. etc. So I did not really “earn” 6 figures if we are going to take all our expenses out of everything…
I think the hubby made 55k – although he did get a few raises, etc so it could be 65k(before taxes, etc.)
February 13, 2007 at 3:17 pm
I don’t know how many times I “wake up to” emails with orders, but it happens often enough for me to mention it. And they come in at other times as well! I promote my website a lot with my customers and many love the fact that they can order at any time, not worry about calling me, leaving a message, etc. They go on line and shop, just like any other website and then place their orders. But you have to promote your website to them or they won’t know they can do that.
February 13, 2007 at 3:55 pm
WOW! What honesty from the Myst!! I think that if you have freedom and you are working 30-35 hours a week this is good livable money. You dont have a car payment and you are selling..and you were able to take care of personal matters.
Thanks for the breakdown Myst.

I just re-read my response to princessedamame and realized it wasn’t much of an answer. I would say that I get 10 or 12 website orders per month on the average, and the value of each is rarely, if ever that I can remember, under $35. Most of the time they are over $75. I also get email orders….for some reason I have a few people that just don’t go for the website experience and just email me to tell me their order. Those happen about two or three times a month with about seven customers, I think. Those orders can be anywhere from $14 (foundation) to $75 and up as well.
All of these result from work I did a long time ago, and that’s what I love about it. I give them fast service when they order this way, so they love it too.

Colleen – You are so right, it is good livable money. 🙂 I remember when I first started working in the corporate world and my first few years I made 18k-25k then I worked my way up and a few years later was making $50-65k, then I will never forget when I hit $85k a year – I was 25 and thought… dang! Then when I hit $100+k I celebrated by buying myself some fabulous $1000 earrings and enjoyed it for awhile! 🙂 Guess what I am trying to say is that I did not hit 6 figures immediately in the corporate world either. In fact, I am on a faster track in my MK business than I was in Corporate – it took me 10-11 years in the corporate world to get to $100k and I was pretty much tapped out – at the top of my pay scale with no where else to go. I have been working MK for less than 5 years and a Director less than 3 years so I can’t complain. 🙂 I see the possibilities of the future. Oh, one more thing, I do NOT compare myself to others. Period.
Me – FAB on the web sales!! I have clients who “shop” the website and email me orders. Cracks me up but hey … the money spends the same! LOL

that is so typical for you to get negative post about your positive experience. Why cant others just accept that many women do make money in this business? I can only assume that the negative post are coming from anti mk folks. They want us to accept their experiences as truth, so why cant they accept our positive ones as truth as well? It can go both ways. I have no doubt that you make as much as you say and that you can make even more. Even if your hubby did not work or if you were single, that is still good money. When people continue to protest about every little thing, it is obvious that it mostly adds up to jealousy. Why must someone belittle the success of another and try to find some other reason for it other than just hard work and dedication? Its an insult to you and this business. I have stopped posting on anti mk sites because you cant reason with jealous people. They will always try to attribute your success to something other than hard work. They will say it was luck, or that you cheated or something like that. I am so tired of that. But I knew that someone would take issue with your post, and I am glad you blocked them.

My director/recruiter’s name is always in applause. Her monthly commission ranges from $7k-$10k on average but I’ve seen her get $11-$12 in one month. She’s been in MK for 12 years and builds her unit strong. She has produced 7 directors and not one has ever fallen out. Most of her directors are Seniors, one is a Future Executive Senior. She is very good at handling her expenses and I couldn’t imagine it to be that high. Last year she made $120k+. She still holds classes – practices the 4-point recruiting plan and sets an example to all of us. It can be done. This business works.
February 14, 2007 at 10:29 am
I think that is the fine line. Do they hold classes? If a director does not hold classes, they make less (profit..sales=profit!), their unit shrinks, they start to have to practically beg for production…etc. Many things the naysayers say is due to the lack of working and more time was spent working with the consultants. As Rena Tarbet says, “IBC means INDEPENDENT.” She stresses not doing debuts, etc. And look at her success.
February 15, 2007 at 6:04 am
One of the reasons that anti mk people are so fanatical about attacking the sales aspect of this business, is that if they can make the masses believe that you cant sell this product, then they will have somewhat of a leg to stand on when they claim that we are pyramid scheme or MLM. We all know that true pyramid schemes and MLM”s are only based on recuriting and there is usually no real selling going on. So it would be beneficial for the naysayers to continue to claim that no one really sells in mary kay or makes any money. Without that arguement, they have no case! But that is what sets this business apart from the others. If you never recurited a soul..you could still make money in this business. How many pyramid schemes or MLM’s can make that claim? Not many, probably not any! So there is a lot of time spent on trying to discredit the money that directors and consultants say they make, because they have to say we cant sell or make money from sales in order to make us fall into the definition of something illegal. But their efforts are in vain, because whether or not you make executive money or extra money,it is still money. And any amount of money being made means that this product is being sold from the consultant to the customer. I dont get many web site sales, but i have been at my day job for about 10 minutes and my customer just called with a $30 order. Yesterday my coworker placed an unexpected order, my valentines sales went well. Not executive, but certainly extra for me which is my goal for my business at this time. My reorder business alone is enough for me to have “part time job money”. So that is why “the myst” was probably attacted about her income statement. But everyday we prove the antimk crowd wrong each time we move this product no matter what the amount is.
February 15, 2007 at 7:28 am
I actually enjoy selling the product and never had any misconceptions about being a Director. I think a lot of people think or are told or are lead to believe that when you become a Director you no longer have to “sell” product. NOT TRUE. Maybe when you make National… but even then many of the Top Nationals still hold unit meetings and selling appointments.
I am working on booking two a day 5 days a week. If I miss a day, then I have to catch up the next day. That has resulted in 8 appointments on the books for this week, Tuesday’s facial $140, Wed morning facial $240; early afternoon No Show, late afternoon Zero dollar but new team member. Approximate time spent, 6 hours with drive time and thank you notes written and mailed – yes already. Still working on turning facials into classes. 🙂
February 15, 2007 at 5:55 pm
Wow, you go girl!
February 28, 2007 at 6:56 pm
I love it that I can still share the product with others and build my team and unit one face at at time. The product will sell itself if we get in front of enough people to show it to.
Thank you Myst for sharing you book 2 a day and your goal is 40 work hours a week.
You WILL reach your 6 figure income goal this year!!
This is a business girls and we get paid in equal proportion to our people skills and how many lives we can touch with both the product and the business opportunity!! Learned this from LMadson… She rocks!
My goal for March is 15 Skin Care classes held and 3-5 new team members! I have 7 on the books for March now and want 5 more by this weekend to make sure I reach my goal of 15 held!
Okay, I’d better stop blogging and start booking!
